Top Tips for finding effective Keywords

Designed to help search engines find and rank your blog or Website, keywords have to be relevant to the purpose and content of your site/ blog.

This sounds easier than it is, because even the most relevant keyword may fail to provide you with a high ranking if it is also used by twenty thousand competitors or if it is simply not specific enough to point to your site.

The following tips on finding effective Keywords will help search engines to find you quickly, easily and ahead of the competition.

Google Keyword Planner

Jot down a few keywords you see as relevant to your blog, business or personal Website, then check them out with the Keyword Planner, a free SEO tool provided by Google. On typing in your keywords, this tool will provide you with a list of similar terms, as well as data on:

  • How many people are searching for each term/ phrase
  • How many competitors are already using it
  • Traffic estimates for keywords/ keyword lists and more

Definitely worth using, the Keyword Planner allows you to find high search volume keywords that are used by the lowest number/s of competitors.

High Search Volume, less Competition

The more competitors are using a search term, the more difficult it becomes to achieve a high ranking. Finding effective Keywords keywords with a ratio of low competition to high search volumes is subsequently of utmost importance.

Key-phrases

Single keywords can often fail to achieve the desired results. Selecting key-phrases consisting of two or more words are typically more specific, which makes them far more effective in improving visitors’ ability to find you and, of course, search engine rankings.

Listing multiple relevant Keywords

Prioritise selected keywords by relevance, then use the most important ones within your copy/ content and list the remaining words/ phrases in the appropriate section application (WordPress, Joomla, etc). Doing this will serve to get you ranked not only for your main keywords, but also for those listed as described above.

Using Keywords

When working your high priority keywords or key-phrases into your copy/ content, do remember that they should be used sparingly and in a way that allows text to flow naturally. The maximum density of keywords per post/ page is between 1% and 2%.
